HIV Awareness and Voluntary Counselling & TestingServices for Drugs Addicts:

In 2001 DOST commenced HIV prevention and STI management services for drug addicts in addition to the outreach and residential treatment services. These services, which mainly include HIV awareness, Voluntary Counselling and Testing, management of STIs and condom education and provision, are offered through outreach teams, drop-in centres and residential treatment centres.
In 2011:

1,848 drug addicts were provided HIV awareness.
193 clients were provided VCT services.
67 clients were provided STI treatment.

Voluntary Counselling & Testing Services for GeneralCommunity in Peshawar:

In 2005, DOST launch the DOST VoluntaryCounseling and Testing Centre in Peshawar.The centre aims at providing HIV awareness, VCTservices, training and mobilizing peer educators on HIV and referral for STI management and ARV treatment to vulnerable groups including armed forces, STI patients, FSW, MSM, Afghan refugees, truckers etc.

In 2011:

2,357 clients were provided VCT services.
31,680 individuals reached through HIV awareness Sessions.
274 clients were referred to STI management/ ARVtreatment services.
278 HIV positive clients received care and support services.

HIV Prevention and Treatment Services for WomenDrug Users and Women Prisoners:

DOST in collaboration with UNODC Pakistan started HIV prevention and treatment services for the women drug users, spouses of male HIV positive drug users and women incarcerated in prisons of KP namely Peshawar, Haripur, Mansehra and Mardan prisons.These services include HIV and drug abuse awareness, detoxification, VCT and STI management, HIV care & support services, psycho-social support, rehabilitation and aftercare and follow-up.

In 2011:

3,624 females in community including 73 female drug users and 59 male drug users while 496 female prisoners were provided awareness.
192 women in community including 132 drug users while 125 prisoners were provided VCT services for HIV and also tested for Hep B/C and Syphillis.
84 female drug users in community while 03 in prisons were provided home/prison-based treatment services.
